How to make a website with MS Word? Part 1
As I already mention in passing and I suppose you are also wise to, the main part of the websites is consisted of text, so what is the problem to use a text editing software to create our website. The building of a website using word, I mean MS Word of course, is not so difficult task and because of that it might be more apt to draw up the instructions as a list of questions and answers. Of course after you read the instructions you will not become a web designer but it will help you to make a fairly good website using word.
The first thing that you have to do is to write the content for the website. Simply in separated documents create the main page (home page) and all sub pages. Do not hurry! Do not forget that your visitor doubtfully thing about how you converted the document, how you drew the tables, how you arranged the links and so on but with certainty he/she will read the content or at least a part of it. Do not write foolishness!
How to convert the existing MS Word document into a website? – Open the document which you to turn from
doc to html . From the main menu pick File > Save as. Give a suitable name of the file so to be able easy to remember the content, for example NYfootball2009. Choose the folder where you keep your website. From the drop down “Save as type” menu below choose HTML Document or web page. Press the button “Save”. One advice: keep all files in a separated folder that is destined only for this website. As you can see it is not difficult to convert doc to website.
A part of the information is systemized in tables, how to convert it into HTML and to format html table? – In broad outlines you do not have to worry about this – MS Word automatically converts the tables. Even more I recommend you to use tables for clarity. Since the browser does not discern more than one space in a string it is not possible “to arrange” your data in a table using spaces. Actually I recommend you to put the whole webpage into a table. Thus you will be able to control the position of the text and the graphs and photos on the screen. There is one thing to remember concerning the table borders – there are visible either all or no borders i.e. it is not possible to make a table which contains few rows and to put to be visible let say only the enclosing borders. No matter that it is possible in MS Word Documents it can not be done in HTML at least not that way.
