Domain and Hosting

So, after your creation is ready (see How to make a website step by step? Part 1) remains the question “How it will transport itself from your computer to Internet?”.

What is hosting?

To be your website visible by the other Internet users firstly it really has to be in Internet in other words it has to be uploaded somewhere at some computer that is right along linked to the Net or the so-called web server. The web server hosts your website. There are two options – to pay for the used space or to use it for free…

Of course you prefer the second option! It is not necessary to break in on the conversation I can guess it by myself!

So, where were we … The free web hosting usually has some shortcomings as little space for your website, limitations in the programming languages or scripts (at this stage this is for general information but it will limit a lot of blinking, flashing things and even your calendar script) or one of the most pestilent putting an ads at your website. Of course not you are the person gathering the money for that. Exactly for this when you make some progress I would recommend to use paid hosting services, but for the personal or your first website it is an unnecessary luxury. For now I for one would gratify with digging the free hosting recourses. If you are of the stubborn donkeys who make it a point to make everything perfect from scratch you could review the offers for paid hosting.

What is domain?

However the hosting of your website at a web server is far removed from the chance to be found by the other Internet users. There is one very simple reason for this: only the providence could help other users to guess that:

1. you uploaded your creation in Internet

2. at which exactly of the billions of web server you put it

3. how to find it among the billions of other websites and files at the concrete web server without having in mind the necessary computer literacy and in many cases hacker talent, to mess about directly in the web server

It is self-understood that I am living on Earth, isn’t it? OK, I will give you 1 000 dollars if you come to drink your coffee with me tomorrow morning. Where? That’s the key question. Your website needs an address to be found. The names of the website addresses are called names of domains. The domain commonly is looking like this yourwebsitename.com where the first part contains the name that you choose, if it is available of course, and the second part is an unique system of top-level domains.

In this connection one more failing of the free hosting – almost always your domain contains the name of the domain of the company free hosting provider. It is easily to explain with an example: your website domain will not look like above but it will be something like yourwebsitename.hostingcompanyname.com or in more depraved cases www.hostingcompanyname.com/yourwebsitename/index.html and of course they could put a few more folders before your website name. On the other hand it is free at least.
