Without pretending to be comprehensive it is not a bad idea to follow the next steps during the creation of your website.

Firstly define the goal of your website. It is not necessary to make a thesis - just answer to a couple of key questions "For what?" you will write in this website and "For whom?" it will be addressed to. The simple sentence "I am making a website to upload a photos of my cat and to share it with my friends who also have cats" completely define the purpose of your first website.

You have to draw, at least in broad outlines, the website structure. In philosophical point of view you have to find the answers of the questions "How I have to classify 'For what?'" and "How I have to arrange it so to be easily found by 'For whom?'". Again talking about cats: How to classify the photos of my cat so that my friends to find the most interesting moments easy. May be if I classify the snaps in sections it will be more useful: the kitty plays, cats turns, washing a cat etc.

Surfing around, you light on all manner of flashing, blinking, falling, jumping and therefore things and interesting web design mumbo-jumbos. Of course there will be all of it in your first website, even two-three times each, isn’t that? All have to gasp when they see your first masterpiece of the web art. Just a little “but”. To be able to finish it in near future (let say in this century) I would like to recommend you firstly to answer to the nasty, dream breaker and at the same time creepy realistic question: How I will make it?

Unfortunately it is clear enough that you will have to pull up the dreams to your means to an end at this stage. Thoroughly that means to clarify what website software to use to make your first website. Do not become panic-stricken – it is not necessary to have expensive professional software. There are a lot of other applications with the help of you will be able to create a passable website. Let not forget that this is your first website and frankly speaking, in this case, the more important is the fact itself that you will have a website yet, than its content let alone the design. Concerning the last two ones I support the doctrine “the content first of all” and I like the more ascetic websites. Oh, and before pass forward it is not a bad idea to insert that it would be nice if you make something like a schedule. In other words put yourself some limits in time. Plan when you want to show your website to your friends. Otherwise take chances to become a slave to the dictum that always you can do it better and better and finally you will never publish your website.
